Spanish driver Marc Marquez (Honda) suffered a broken right thumb after colliding with Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) on the third lap of the Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix.
According to the medical service of the championship, examinations carried out on the ex-world champion revealed a fracture of the first metacarpal bone of the right hand, in the area of the thumb.
Márquez failed to brake on Turn 3 of the Internacional circuit to the Algarve, hit Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) and collided with Portuguese Miguel Oliveira, who suffered a severe right leg injury.
The Spanish rider went to the box of the RNF Aprilia team, owned by the Portuguese rider, with an apology, pointing out that he had a technical problem on his bike, but this did not escape the loud whistle from the Portuguese public present in Portimão.
The Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix is the first of 21 races in the 2023 World Speed Championship.
This Sunday’s race was won by Italy’s Francesco Bagna (Ducati), who had already won Saturday’s sprint.
