Portugal makes a complete and guaranteed presence in European under-17 football in Hungary

On Tuesday, Portugal’s under-17 football team secured qualification for the 2023 UEFA European Championship in Hungary by beating the Czech Republic in Viseu 2-0 in the Elite Round Group 5 game.

Gonçalo Oliveira, 37, and Martim Fernandes, 55, handed the victory to Portugal, who scored a full goal and won three pool games without conceding a single goal.

A draw on Tuesday was all it took for Portugal to qualify, and Filipe Ramos’ men handed the game over to their opponents, but the Czech advance ran into a solid defense from the Kinas.

Before the goal, in the 35th minute, Gonzalo Moreira from the “trivela” sent the ball into the crossbar of the goal, defended by Herkens.

The goal came two minutes after Goncalo Moreira’s free-kick from the right handed an assist into the heart of the penalty area, where Goncalo Oliveira was the quickest to go to the bottom of the Czech goal.

In the second half, in the 55th minute, right-back Martim Fernandez found an open road to the goal and, having overcome the opponent’s defense, when only Hirkens was in front, had no chance and shot, making the score 2:0.

The Czech Republic were hit hard and Gonzalo Ribeiro could hardly be bothered, who finished this elite round without conceding a single goal.

The final stage of the competition will be held in Hungary from May 17 to June 2.
