Angola and the Republic of the Congo step up their fight against human trafficking

This Thursday, the governments of Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reviewed the fight against human trafficking. The mission continues to include strengthening the security arrangements at the common border, according to Jornal de Angola.

Ana Celeste Januario, Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, warned of the persistence of this type of crime in countries involved in the cross-border forum between the authorities of the two countries, emphasizing the urgency of combating it.

DRC Ambassador to Angola Kalala Kayiba Konstantin also guarantees that it is necessary to unite efforts to discuss documentary statistics of cases of human trafficking, as well as control of migration flow across the common border. Kalala also suggests doing research on creating mixed teams to control the movement of people.

The diplomat believes that the implementation of bilateral agreements of 2007 between the Service for Migration and Foreigners (SME) of Angola and the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of the DRC can contribute to the development of a permanent system along with appeal to border zones.
