Polish international Robert Lewandowski has received the 2021/22 Golden Boot trophy, awarded to the top scorer in European leagues, and said he is convinced next year will be “very good”.
“I am very happy at Barcelona. I am sure that next year will be very good, Barcelona is more than a club. This is a very important prize for me,” said the striker, who is already the top scorer in La Liga. Spain, with 13 goals in 14 matches.
Robert Lewandowski received the trophy for his (35) goals scored last season with Bayern Munich, making him the second Golden Boot of his career after he also topped the 2020/21 season with 41 goals.
At today’s ceremony, the player was accompanied by his wife Anna, as well as some names from the Spanish club, such as coach Xavi, president Joan Laporta or former captain Carles Puyol.
The Polish striker hasn’t forgotten about his former Bayern Munich teammates, but he also talked about Barcelona.
“Games like yesterday [terça-feira, vitória fora com o Osasuna] and in Valencia [onde deu a vitória à equipa, já nos descontos] to show the will that we have to win the League,” Lewandowski said, without touching, however, on the double yellow card and sending off in the game with Osasuna.
The player also expressed regret over the Spanish team’s elimination in the Champions League group stage, which he says is a growth stage, admitting that the 2022 World Cup will help Barça’s youth a lot.
“It will be a very positive experience for the young players in the Barça national team. We are doing well in La Liga, but we still lack patience,” he added.
At the World Cup, in the service of Poland, the forward will face very tough competition, in which he sees Brazil and Argentina, Polish rivals in Group C, among the favorites for the title.
