FIFA has turned down a request by the Danish national team to train in jerseys that read “human rights for all” during the World Cup in Qatar, the Danish Football Association (DBU) said on Thursday.
Denmark, which plays an active role in protecting the rights of migrant workers in the emirate and LGBTQI+ rights, wanted to spread the word about the T-shirts as a form of protest against Qatar and its human rights violations.
The Danish team also intends to imagine a different basic uniform and a black alternative to commemorate those who died or were injured while building stadiums, the metro network, roads and hotels in Doha.
At the World Cup, Denmark will enter Group D along with defending champions France, Tunisia and Australia, who were also one of the most important participants in Qatar.
The Men’s World Cup will take place from November 20 to December 18, with Portugal qualifying for Group H along with Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea.
