Carris says that participation in the strike among drivers is 4%.

Drivers’ commitment to the partial strike by Carris workers, which began this Monday and ends Friday, “is about 4%,” the company told Lusa.

“Karris reports that due to a partial strike called by one of the trade union associations representing some of the company’s employees, only two of the 512 planned services (trips) were suppressed early this morning,” the report said. reply sent to Luce.

According to the Union of Road and Urban Transport Workers of Portugal (STRUP), the workers’ strike has “good cohesion, more at some stations than others”.

“Because it’s a strike in the first two hours of work [de cada turno], is currently difficult to explain the membership. There are workers who join, others leave, others do not keep two hours. However, attendance was good, with some stations more than others,” Manuel Leal told Lusa in the morning.

On March 15, the public company announced an agreement with four trade unions, in which workers will receive a €70 increase in wages, but the union of road and urban transport workers in Portugal, which is affiliated with the Federation of Trade Unions of Transport and Communications (Fektrans).

STRUP demanded a salary increase of the order of 100 euros, as well as a seven-hour working day and allowances for employees at the stations.

Due to a wage proposal presented by the management of the Lisbon bus and tram carrier, a trade union meeting was held where about 200 workers decided to schedule a strike in the first two hours and in the last hours (at each workplace) for the week.

On its website, the company says that due to the partial shutdown of “one of the trade unions representing some of the company’s employees, there may be some disruption to regular traffic between April 3 and 7, namely early in the morning. and towards evening.

According to the carrier, by decision of the Arbitration Court, a minimum service has been decreed, namely the operation of routes 703, 708, 735, 736, 738, 742, 744, 751, 755, 758, 760 and 767, in addition to work of a special service for people with reduced mobility, according to transport requests.

The four unions that have signed an agreement with Carris are the Transport Workers Union (SITRA), the Carris Workers Union (ASPTC), the National Union of Drivers and Other Workers (SNMOT), and the Carris Service Workers Union (SITESE). ).

During a plenary session on the €100 pay rise, Manuel Leal told Luce that since the last meeting in February, “the administration has not responded” but “undertook to continue negotiations on the remaining clauses of the company’s contract.”

According to STRUP, “the €70 offer presented by the administration is insufficient and does not meet what the workers want and deserve”, in addition to the fact that wages do not reflect Carris’s “increase in productivity” or increase in the cost of living. .

Carris is responsible for the surface urban public transport for passengers in the city of Lisbon, which has been operated by the Lisbon City Council since February 1, 2017.
