This Thursday, PSP asked the spectators of the Benfica-Porto game of the 27th round of Football League I, scheduled for Friday, to use buses to reach Estádio da Luz, as an alternative to the partial closure of the metro.
Between Friday and Monday, the blue line of the Metropolitano de Lisboa (Reboleira – Santa Apolonia), which includes the stations closest to the Estádio da Luz, where the game will be played, is closed due to work on upgrading the transport system.
“There will be some restrictions because the blue line won’t work,” quartermaster Francisco Alves said during the press conference of the Public Security Police (PSP) about the match.
However, he recalled that the Metropolitano de Lisbon had prepared a “contingency plan” with buses.
According to the carrier’s website, as an alternative, buses will run between Campo Grande (near the NOS building) and Estrada da Luz (near the Second Ring Viaduct) from 15:00 to 23:00 on the day. from the “classics”.
Passengers on these buses “will be able to use valid tickets on the metro network,” the company said in a statement.
“People should continue to choose public transport,” said the mayor, who sees buses as the most practical solution to get to their starting point.
With more than 60,000 spectators waiting, Francisco Alves anticipates traffic restrictions around the stadium and asks fans to arrive early.
The doors of the Estádio da Luz open at 4:00 pm, according to PSP.
The same organization called on the expected 2,000 Porto fans to gather by 2:30 pm next to the Mário Soares roundabout on Avenida dos Condes de Carnida and then go to the playing field accompanied by the police.
When asked by journalists about a possible celebration, given that if Benfica wins, they will be ahead of Porto by 13 points, the intendant replied that the PSP will be attentive to the fans even after the end of the match.
“The police action will only stop when all 60,000 people have left the stadium and left the grounds,” Francisco Alves said, acknowledging that this game “won’t solve anything” for the championship winner.
Regarding the use of pyrotechnics, the police officer reminded that it is prohibited and dangerous.
“We have uniformed and non-uniformed teams that are attentive to this phenomenon, they are our spotters,” he stressed, noting that surveillance will be carried out inside and outside the stadium.
Benfica lead the Portuguese Football League 1 with 71 points, 10 more than second-placed Porto.
The match will start at 18:00 and will take place at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
