On March 29, PSP arrested a 68-year-old man on suspicion of domestic violence in Marville, Lisbon. According to the authorities, the man allegedly locked his wife whenever he was not at home.
The police were called to the scene after neighbors reported a quarrel between the couple and, upon arriving at the scene, found that the door of the house was locked with a chain and the windows were barred.
Police were able to contact the victim through a hole in the window shade, and she confirmed that the window was locked whenever the man left the house, adding that her husband left her only a small amount of food during the day.
While the police were sorting out the situation, the man arrived and removed the chain from the door, let the police into the house and stated that he was only arresting the woman in order to protect her from herself. The operatives managed to establish that the house was dirty, in disrepair, without any living conditions.
The suspect was detained on the spot, and “the victim, along with her daughter, was taken to a safe place,” the report said. The detainee is subject to identification and length of stay.
