Look who came to the party. With a second round of 69, three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson stole the table unnoticed for four under par. And it seems that with that unexpected overhead sight he remains eight hits better than league leader Brooks Cap with 12 under par, Mickelson has abandoned stealth as a weekend strategy.
“I’m about to burst into tears. You won’t believe it. Look at the scores. But I’m playing like yesterday, hitting the ball well, turning 65, 66 into 77. Who knows when he’ll click? It might click tomorrow. Part of it slows my mind and allows it happens and then it clicks. But that’s the biggest problem in the game, not the enforcement.”
Mickelson retired after joining the LIV Golf League. His game has shrunk because of his waistline, which somehow blurs the light of this once-radiant golfer. Mickelson in full plumage filled the weekend with a retro vibe, adding a completely unexpected dimension when the first whistle blew.
