According to the provincial government, the occupants of the car that crashed early this Sunday into the passenger terminal at the port of Luanda, causing an infrastructure fire, got out of the car unharmed.

“Fortunately, the passengers of the Audi car that crashed into the passenger terminal in the port of Luanda tonight were not injured. Caution is strongly advised when driving,” the Luanda provincial government said in a publication. Facebook.

The publication, made at 01:11 local time (the same time in Lisbon), is accompanied by footage of the incident, which shows a burnt and overturned car inside the terminal area, as well as damage to infrastructure, both inside and outside. .

Images posted on social media also show a fire inside the passenger terminal at the port of Luanda, next to the catamaran area, as well as calls for help.

A statement from the Port of Luanda this Sunday explained that the fire broke out at the marine passenger terminal facilities at 21:30 on Saturday “as a result of a skid of a passenger car on Avenida 4 de Fevereiro.”

“The fire only covered an area of ​​430 square meters, affecting ticket offices, a cafe/bar, a storage room and sanitary facilities,” the text notes, noting that the entire terminal “occupies a total area of ​​4,158.76 square meters. meters.”

The port of Luanda also assures that “at the moment the situation is under control.”

According to a statement from the departmental communications and press service, “the flames started in an emergency vehicle and in a short time reached part of the concentration zone of passengers of the said terminal,” but the team of the National Civil Protection Service and firefighters at the port mobilized funds and people, “preventing the loss of life and necessary materials » for terminal activities.

“A multidisciplinary team, consisting of representatives of various specialties from the Ministry of the Interior, the port of Luanda and Cecil Maritim, has been working on assessing the causes of the accident and calculating material damage since the first hours of the incident. and determine the measures that need to be taken to restore the affected part of the terminal, ”the message says.

As for the passengers of the car, who remained safe and sound after the accident, their condition is “monitored by specialized bodies assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, after providing them with the necessary medical care.”
