Julen Lopetegui and SAD FC Porto this Wednesday morning reached an agreement to pay the tax office about 800 thousand euros. The clauses of the agreement that canceled the commencement of litigation in the labor court of Porto were not disclosed by either party.
Former FC Porto coach Julen Lopetegui demanded 782,000 euros from Porto SAD due to IRS settlements made by the tax office during the months the coach received income. At the time, after losing to Sporting and drawing against Rio Ave, Porto sacked the Spanish coach.
The lawsuit filed by Julen Lopetegui was filed in September 2020 in the 2nd Employment Court judgment requesting that “FC Porto SAD be ordered to pay him the net amount of €791,839.77 in labor loans arising from the IRS. calculations in 2014, 2015 and 2016”. The former Spanish coach asked the IRS for special tax treatment from the IRS, but was denied. The amount requested is derived from the difference between the 20% IRS rate provided by the coach and the rate due, which results in an additional calculation.
Julen Lopetegui was Porto’s manager in the 2014/2015 season (he finished third) and part of the 2015/2016 season, while the Porto players were in second place with the same number of points as Benfica. The Spanish coach left the Dragons in January 2016.
