The first IRS refunds will start flowing into taxpayers’ accounts this Thursday. The Treasury Department said in a statement that Tax and Customs had already “paid off the first IRS returns filed and processed the first refunds.”
The campaign, which began on April 1, is running as usual, and taxpayers can file a 2022 income tax return by June 30.
“By 6 p.m. on the 12th, more than 1.7 million IRS returns had been filed by taxpayers. Of these, 46% were filed through the automatic IRS,” the report says.
The Treasury Department also warns that those who do not wish to file an IRS return via digital means and prefer in-person assistance at financial services should make an appointment in advance through the financial portal or by phone.
