In a written statement to the Lusa agency, Carlos Pereira justifies his decision by the need to “protect the results to be determined by the Commission of Inquiry and protect the interests of the Socialist Party.”
As before, the coordinator of the Socialist deputies for the investigation of the TAR claims that the news “which have been repeated in recent weeks only contribute to deepening the atmosphere of unfounded suspicions.”
The deputy elected by Madeira indicates that he will leave not only the coordination of the investigation, but also the commission itself.
“I realized that I was asking the chairman of the parliamentary group of the PS to release me from the approval of the deputies of the Socialist Party in the parliamentary commission for the investigation of the political administration of the TAR, as well as my presence in this commission,” he said. writes.
Carlos Pereira claims that he provided Correio da Manha with “every explanation” that was asked of him and rejects any favoritism.

The economist and former PS leader in the Parliament of Madeira was already at the center of the controversy after it was revealed that he participated in a meeting with former TAP executive president Christine Urmier-Widener and with government advisers on January 17, on the eve of hearings in the Assembly of the Republic.
