A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of defrauding 35 residents of the Lisbon metropolitan area with forged leases, resulting in more than €25,000 embezzled, PSP announced today.
A statement from the Lisbon Metropolitan PSP explains that the suspect posed as “the owner of the property and then rented it out to people who showed interest, with rent paid and upfront guarantees at a below-market price.”
“After this method was noted and the suspect was identified, the police discovered in the greater metropolitan area of the city of Lisbon, namely in Amadora and Lisbon, a total of 35 victims, the targets of this method of fraud, which earned a suspect amount of more than 25,000 euros” , indicates the PSP.
According to the authorities, one of the crimes took place on March 22 in the Arroyos district of Lisbon, when a man managed to take 660 euros “under the pretext of a false lease”.
The detainee, suspected of committing a crime of qualified fraud, was present in court, a preventive measure in the form of detention, the most severe, was applied to him.
