Teacher strike starts in Porto today

Teachers in the Porto area are on strike this Monday, marking the start of another round of district strikes that will end on May 12 in Lisbon schools without a minimum of maintenance.

The full restoration of the frozen service life and the abolition of quotas and vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels continue to be the main reasons for encouraging teachers to protest again.

The county strike is again a protest chosen by the platform of nine teacher union structures, which include the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) and the National Federation of Education (FNE).

Unlike what has happened in recent months, the Ministry did not demand minimum services for this district strike.

Starting in Porto at 12:00 this Monday, the strike will cover all parts of the country in reverse alphabetical order, from Viseu to Aveiro, and end in Lisbon.

Secretary General Fenprof said last week that tutelage proposals to correct the asymmetries created by the life freeze would leave more professors behind than trade union organizations predicted.

In addition to Fenprof and FNE, the platform includes the Allied Association of Licensed Teachers (APSL), the Pro-Order of Teachers (PRÓ-ORDEM), the Union of Educators and Licensed Teachers (SEPLEU), the National Union of Educators (SINAPE), the National and Democratic Union of Teachers (SINDEP ), the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE) and the National Union of Teachers Licensed by Polytechnics and Universities (SPLIU).

However, an indefinite strike called by the Union of All Educational Workers (Stop) has come to an end after a break of more than four months.

But Stop has already called for a new nationwide strike on April 24, 26, 27 and 28 against the new competition regime and to push again for the restoration of all service life.
