The Judicial Police (PJ) said on Monday that a 61-year-old Portuguese national who was recently arrested in Switzerland for fraud offenses has been extradited to Portugal.
The SP said in a statement that, through Leiria’s Criminal Investigation Department and the International Cooperation Department, it carried out the extradition of a person detained in Switzerland in accordance with a European arrest warrant issued by the District Judicial Court. from Santarem.
The extradition followed 25 offenses of skilled fraud and three offenses of forgery or forgery of documents committed in 2004 and 2005 in various parts of Portugal.
According to the JV, the first known case was in Torres Novas, where the suspect’s “modus operandi” was to forge certified bank checks issued by two companies, one in the pharmaceutical sector and the other in insurance.
The man resorted to “newspaper ads, in particular promotions for the sale of cars by private individuals, chose the victims and after a telephone contact, and then a personal contact, where he made a purchase of cars, receiving fake checks as a form of payment using the cost of the sale” .
The SP adds that the individual co-sponsored with another Portuguese citizen, both with the complicity of two other people, “investigating and identifying the fraudulent acquisition of 14 luxury cars found in the Greater Porto area. “.
The Judicial Police traveled to Switzerland, where the detainee was handed over to them by the Swiss authorities, proceeding to deliver him to the prison services to serve the 12-year sentence to which he had been sentenced.
