The Sporting Shareholders Commission wants to increase the salary cap of Frederico Varandas by 32%, which at the limit could lead to the fact that the president of Sporting will receive up to 420 thousand euros a year. The proposal will be put to a vote at the SAD Extraordinary General Meeting on 16 May.
The executive directors of SAD leonina have two salary components: one fixed and one variable (which can reach a maximum of 75% of the cost of the former). Then let’s take care of the bills.
Currently, Varandas can receive up to €182,000 fixed gross per year, paid in 14 instalments. The variable component cannot exceed 136.5 thousand euros out of the total amount of 318.5 thousand euros per year.
The offer on the table updates these amounts to €240,000 fixed and €180,000 variable, for a total of €420,000.
However, Varandas in the previous two seasons received only 80.8% of the possible fixed salary, i.e. 147,000 euros. If a 32% increase had been applied to this particular amount, then the President of Sporting would have received €194,000.
It is on this value that the variable component will then be calculated by achieving certain goals.
In the 2021/22 season, this part was 50% of the fixed amount: 73,500 euros, which, together with 147,000 euros, gave the salary that Varandas received: 220,500 euros. Below the €250,000 paid to sports director Hugo Viana.
The other two directors of Sporting’s SAD, Francisco Zegne and André Bernardo, will have their fixed salary caps increased from €131,000 to €190,000.
