According to data sent by the company to Luso, CP has blocked 40 trains out of 150 scheduled for the period from 00:00 to 08:00 this Saturday due to a workers’ strike, most of which were regional and urban in Lisbon.
CP – Comboios de Portugal indicates that out of 48 scheduled regional trains, 17 were not carried out, while in Lisbon city trains, 59 were scheduled and 15 were cancelled.
Thus, the strike meant the suppression of 35.4% and 25.4% of these two services of the Communist Party, respectively.
On Porto city trains, out of 29 scheduled trains, four were canceled (13.8% of the total), and on Coimbra city trains, three out of five scheduled trains were not carried out.
Until the end of the month, “at the CP, workers whose normal duration is more than three hours between 00:00 and 05:00 will strike from the seventh hour of work.”
Until April 30, at the IP, “workers whose normal duration is more than three hours in the period from 00:00 to 05:00 will strike from the seventh hour of work.”
These strikes were called by a trade union platform consisting of ASCEF – Allied Railroad Exploration Middle Managers Association; SINFB – National Union of Railway Workers of the Brace Tribe and Related Workers; o SINFA – Independent Trade Union of Railway Transport, Infrastructure and Related Industries Workers; o FENTECOP – National Union of Transport, Communications and Public Works; SIOFA – Independent Union of Railway Workers, etc.; ASSIFECO – Independent Trade Union Association of Commercial Railway Workers and STF – Railway Technical Services.
The National Union of Drivers of Portuguese Railways (SMAQ) is also on strike throughout April, given the “snub” it accuses the company of.
Workers’ demands include “efficient wage increases”, “traction career evaluation” and improved working conditions in driver’s cabs and social facilities, as well as safety conditions on lines and in parks to protect motor material.
There is also a need for “humanization of duty lists, fixed meal times and reduction of rest time outside headquarters”, “an effective protocol for psychological support of train drivers in case of people getting stuck on the way and accidents”. “and “recognition and evaluation of the professional requirements and training of machinists by the new legislative framework.”
