The president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal said this Saturday that no protests against the Brazilian president had ever been planned, expressing surprise at the opposite words expressed by a member of the Brazilian government.
Speaking to Lusa, Pavel Sadokha said he was not aware of the reasons for Brazilian State Minister Marcio Macedo’s statement following the receipt of an open letter from the Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon on Friday protesting President Lula da Silva’s controversial statement about the conflict provoked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. , February 24, 2022
In an open letter, the Ukrainian community remembers that Lula da Silva mentioned that the peaceful solution to ending the war is Ukraine’s renunciation of its territories, given that the blame should be shared between both sides.
The words of the President of Brazil, spoken in the presence of the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, were immediately criticized by the West, especially the European Union and the United States, which forced Lulu da Silva to “fix his hand” to emphasize that he condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and advocates world.
“While my government condemns the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, we defend the political solution reached through negotiations. I spoke about our concern about the consequences of the war, which extend beyond the European continent,” Lula da Silva later said.
“We are not talking about demonstrations because demonstrations were never planned for this Saturday or Tuesday. [25 de abril]. The only action we have foreseen is the delivery of an open letter to the embassy,” explained the president of the association, Luse, this Saturday.
As for Sadohi, the Ukrainian delegation that entered and spoke with Macedo left the embassy with the same opinion as about the words of Lula da Silva, noting that the only positive moment was the decision taken by the President of Brazil to send the former head of diplomacy to Ukraine. to assess the situation.
“We cleared everything up and we were told that Lula da Silva will continue to seek dialogue for peace. I do not know how. When Nazi Germany invaded Europe [na Segunda Guerra Mundial, 1939/45] no one was watching [Adolf] Hitler for Peace. The same with [Presidente da Rússia, Vladimir] Putin, who is not a politician with whom you can have a dialogue, because he is a criminal who needs to be judged,” he stressed.
On Friday, Macedo, after receiving a Ukrainian delegation that handed him an open letter, told reporters that Lula da Silva had decided that his foreign affairs adviser, Celso Amorim, would visit Ukraine, a trip not yet scheduled that prompted Ukrainians to cancel protests scheduled for Tuesday.
The open letter asks for “Lula da Silva’s intervention in this conflict between Russia and Ukraine and an invitation for President Lula to come to Ukraine,” Macedo explained.
“President Lula is called to peace. Therefore, I said that I received them with great honor,” Macedo said, adding that the head of state “will work to unite other countries to find an alternative to ending this conflict that is good for humanity and this has gone on for too long.”
With regard to all the controversy and criticism of the President of Brazil in connection with the statements of conflict, the Minister of State believes that there has been an “interpretation that is not consistent with the position of President Lula.”
“There was no enmity in the dialogue [com os ucranianos]on the contrary, it was a very good meeting.”
“The President has asked me on his behalf to stand in solidarity with all the families affected by this war and to say that because he was obsessed with ending the famine in Brazil, he is also determined to help end this conflict.”
