On Thursday, Sporting CP attacked Benfica coach Roger Schmidt for defending the end of VAR in football.
The reaction came from Miguel Braga, the club’s communications director, in an editorial in the Sporting newspaper: “Again, the entire decision must be given to the judge. It won’t be 100% right, but that’s football.” No, sorry, but it’s not. It was. And for some clubs more than others, it has come at a cost.”
The official praised VAR’s accuracy in “restoring sporting truth” by preventing handballs that are worth titles or confirmed by offsides that the most competent referees sometimes fail to detect.
The team trained on the Thursday before the game against Famalicao (Sunday) without four injured (Saint-Just, Paulinho, Jovane and Braganza).
