Chega will demand parliamentary hearings by the Portuguese Republic’s Information Systems Supervisory Board (SIRP) and the Ministers of Infrastructure and Justice regarding the restoration of the computer handed over to former MP Frederic Pinheiro.
“Chega asked that the interrogation of the director of the SIS [Serviço de Informações de Segurança] was urgent and will add to this hearing the supervisory board of the “secrets”, which acted belatedly and only under pressure from public opinion,” said the Chegi leader.
Andre Ventura spoke to reporters at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon.
On Sunday, the party has already published a request for an urgent hearing of the CCC director in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees.
André Ventura felt that the contours of SIS’s possible involvement in the restoration of the government laptop were “obscure” and wondered “how this action took place, who requested it, and in what model it was ordered, if SIS decided to act on its own or not.”
“We must understand well what led to the intervention of the special services and how the computer was assembled,” he stressed.
Chegi’s leader demanded a “quick and clear explanation” and stated that the action had “no legal basis”.
Pointing out that the parliamentary committee investigating the TAP case “refused to wait for a hearing” from the Minister of Infrastructure, Ventura indicated that he wanted to summon the Ministers of Infrastructure and Justice to Parliament “for clarification in which circuits it was called SIS” without fail and as a matter of urgency.
Chega wants to summon João Galamba and Catarina Sarmento and Castro “to respected commissions, if only to explain under what conditions and what is their participation in this order or an indication or proposal for the participation of SIS.”
Pointing out that the Minister of Infrastructure “gave the impression that it was the Minister of Justice who advised him to talk to the secret services”, Andre Ventura believes that “it is important to understand who told João Galamba, if anyone, that the secret services would be the right entity to handle such a case.”
President Chegi said that the party will try to consider this issue at the hearings of the SIRP Supervisory Board, which will be held on Wednesday in the commission on constitutional issues and the commission on national defense.
“The reason for this hearing has nothing to do with this case or with the commission of inquiry of the TAP, but Chega will not fail to question those in charge about this situation and the security guarantees they can give citizens regarding the work of the security services. information in favor of the government, according to the testimony of the government and in the party-political interests,” he added.
The SIRP Supervisory Board on Tuesday clarified that on its own initiative it requested information about the intervention of the SIS in the case of the discovery of a computer assigned to a former government deputy with classified information.
In a note released on Tuesday, the SIRP Review Board clarified that following the release of news on the 18th of SIS’s involvement in the recovery of the government laptop, “immediately and on its own initiative made an attempt to obtain information. necessary for the fulfillment of its oversight mission.
The laptop in question was attributed to Frederico Pinheiro, a former aide to minister João Galamba, who was fired after a disagreement over delivering documents to the TAP parliamentary committee of inquiry.
