According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), almost 60 municipalities in the seven districts of Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real and Bragança pose the highest risk of rural fires this Wednesday.
IPMA predicts today a maximum temperature of 36 degrees in Santarém, 35 in Évora, 34 in Leiria and 33 in Castelo Branco and Beja.
Several councils in 18 areas of the mainland today pose a very high and high risk of fires in rural areas.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
According to the Institute for Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), since the beginning of the year there have been 2,421 forest fires and burned 7,590 hectares of rural areas.
IPMA predicts periods of very cloudy skies for today on the continent, with usually slightly cloudy skies in the southern region in the morning and showers or showers, especially in the northern and central regions, starting in the afternoon, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms. .
The forecast also indicates locally strong winds in the highlands, a decrease in maximum temperature, especially on the coast, and a slight increase in minimum temperature on the northern and central coast.
Minimum temperatures will range from 12 degrees Celsius (in Portalegre) to 18 (in Faro), while maximum temperatures will range from 21 (in Viana do Castelo) to 30 (in Évora and Beja).
