Portuguese driver Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) will miss the MotoGP French Grand Prix, the fifth race of the season, due to a left shoulder injury sustained at last Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, team RNF Aprilia announced this Thursday.
“Unfortunately, Miguel Oliveira had to withdraw from the French Grand Prix due to a shoulder injury sustained at the Spanish Grand Prix. [a seguir à queda] After the shoulder was brought back into place, additional tests showed that the injury was more serious, including a fracture of the humerus and anterior ligament of the upper lip,” the RNF said in a statement.
In the same document, the team that the Portuguese pilot is fighting for also reported that Miguel Oliveira and his medical team decided not to perform the operation, opting for a more conservative treatment.
The pilot from Almada will be replaced by Italian Lorenzo Salvadori, test pilot of Aprilia.
This is the second race that Oliveira is forced to miss due to injury after he was already absent from the Argentine Grand Prix, the second round of the season.
At the time, it was a right thigh tendon injury caused by a strike by Spaniard Marc Marquez (Honda) during the Portuguese Grand Prix on March 26, which caused him to miss out.
The Portuguese returned to the American Grand Prix, which ended in fifth position.
Miguel Oliveira collided again, this time with France’s Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.
During the fall, the Portuguese pilot dislocated his left shoulder and received a small fracture of the humerus.
The MotoGP French Grand Prix is the fifth race of the World Speed Championship, taking place on May 14.
