According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the municipalities of Monchique, Portimão and Tavira in the Faro region this Monday pose the highest fire risk.
IPMA has also placed about 30 municipalities in Faro, Beja, Santarém, Portalegre and Castelo Branco at very high fire risk.
More than 70 municipalities from Faro, Évora, Beja, Lisbon, Santarem, Leiria, Portalegre, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real and Braganca pose a high risk of rural fires.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Since the beginning of the year, 2524 fires have already affected 7668 hectares of rural areas.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
The institute predicts, at least until Friday, an increase in the risk of fires in rural areas.
IPMA predicts some cloudiness for the continent this Monday, increased cloudiness on the north and central coasts from late afternoon, light to moderate winds and a slight increase in temperature, especially maximum, in the hinterland and east. South Region.
The minimum temperature will range from 7 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) to 16 (in Faro), and the maximum – from 19 (in Guarda) to 28 (in Evora).
