The dinner is private, without media coverage, but before the start, journalists were able to see Felipe VI, António Guterres, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza and Antonio Costa together, strolling along one of the balconies of the Yuste monastery.

The group, which also included European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albarez and António Guterres’ wife Catarina Vas Pinto, chatted for several minutes on the balcony overlooking the garden where the journalists were.

This is the first time Marcelo Rebelo de Souza and António Costa have been together since they led to a public disagreement last week over keeping infrastructure minister Joao Galamba in government.

The Carlos V European Prize is awarded for the work of “individuals, organizations, projects or initiatives that have contributed to the general knowledge and strengthening of the cultural, social, scientific and historical values ​​of Europe, as well as to the process of European construction and integration.” according to the Foundation of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste, which assigns it.

On Tuesday, António Guterres receives the 16th Carlos V European Prize, which the jury awarded him “for his credible, broad and long journey of life dedicated to social commitment, the European building process, the promotion of multilateralism and dignity as the foundation of his work. , solution of global problems and crises”.

The Juste European and Ibero-American Academy Foundation has King Felipe VI as “Honorary President” and has already awarded this prize to two other Portuguese, former President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio (in 2004) and former Prime Minister and former President of the European Commission José Manuel Duran Barroso (in 2014).

Jacques Delors, Wilfried Martens, Felipe Gonzalez, Mikhail Gorbachev, Helmut Kohl, Simone Weil, Javier Solana and Angela Merkel were other personalities previously awarded this prize.
