The European Union (EU) is considering imposing sanctions on countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions imposed over its invasion of Ukraine, the president of the European Commission said on Tuesday.
“Our goal is to prevent evasion [às sanções da UE contra a Federação Russa]together with our international partners,” Ursula von der Leyen said at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
The President of the European Commission added that the mechanism under consideration would become part of the 11th package of sanctions against Russia and would be used only “as a last resort”, but “there should be no doubt” about the determination of the 27th member of the State to enforce it if necessary.
