The reading of the ruling on the disclosure of Benfica’s emails in Porto Canal, scheduled for Friday, has been rescheduled for this Wednesday to June 12, a court source told Lusa news agency.
This is the second postponement of the court session, which was originally scheduled for March 27, but was postponed to May 12 due to the aggravation of a number of crimes imputed to Francisco J. Marquez and Diogo Faria.
On March 27, the panel of judges opened the session with a report on the aggravation of crimes of violation of correspondence or telecommunications, as well as crimes of insulting a legal entity, defendants Francisco J. Marquez and Diogo Faria.
The hearing was then adjourned for a few minutes to allow the defense to speak, but the defendants realized there was nothing to ask for, which led to the verdict being rescheduled for the following Friday, a date that has now been rescheduled again.
The email disclosure case dates back to 2017 and 2018, when messages between elements linked to the Benfica structure and third parties were disclosed in the program “Universo Porto – da Benfica” on the Porto channel and started to be considered. Francisco J. The Director of Public Relations of FC Porto is also responsible for five aggravated offenses against a legal person and one offense against a legal person aggravated on a private charge.
Diogo Faria was charged with a crime of breach of correspondence or telecommunications rules and an offense of unauthorized access, in addition to a crime against a legal person aggravated by private prosecution.
Finally, Julio Magalhães is charged by the Ministry of Public Affairs with three aggravated crimes of breach of correspondence or telecommunications, with a clear overlap with three crimes of invasion of privacy, as well as five aggravated crimes in respect of legal entity.
