Russian occupation authorities in the Zaporozhye region in southeastern Ukraine said on Thursday that some 12,000 citizens were evacuated in an announced May 5 evacuation from places close to the front line.
“About 4,000 people arrived in the city of Berdyansk. These are citizens who arrived in an organized manner by bus. Children with parents or accompanying people, elderly people and patients from medical institutions,” explained Sergey Tolmachev, Deputy Governor of the Russian-annexed region. .
Tolmachev added that in addition to them, 8,000 residents arrived on their own in territories also controlled by Russian forces, which occupy about 70% of the territory of Zaporozhye in the neighboring Kherson region, controlled by Ukrainian forces.
