Striker Ricardo Horta of Sporting de Braga was elected Football League One’s Player of the Year in April in an election held among the head coaches of the competition, and announced this Friday the organization of the competition.
Horta, 28, received 26.19% of the coaches’ votes, beating Arruabarrena, the Uruguayan goalkeeper from Aroca, who came in second with 9.52%, and Mehdi Taremi, the striker from Porto, who finished third with 8.73%.
During April, the international scored three goals in Sporting Braga’s five wins, finishing third in Ligue I.
Horta has already been named Forward of the Month, joining Sporting de Braga’s Artur Jorge, who was named Best Manager in April.
The award for the best goalkeeper for this period went to Arruabarrena, 40-year-old Pepe (Porto) received the award as the best defender, and the Spaniard Ivan Jaime (Famalican) – as the best midfielder.
In the II League, Marco Matias (Farense) was named the best player, and Sergio Vieira (Estrela Amadora) was named the best coach of April.
