A man from the Brazilian city of Joinville in the northern state of Santa Catarina was sentenced to 1,080 years in prison for raping his stepdaughter at least 90 times. The accused was caught red-handed a few weeks ago when his wife, who suspected violations, came home early without warning and, confirming the crime, called the police.
Judge Paulo Eduardo Huergo Farah of the 4th Criminal Court of the Court of Santa Catarina handed down a harsh sentence for evaluating that more than 90 times a girl was sexually raped under various circumstances and methods, characterizing each rape as a separate crime, since each of them was committed different than the previous one. The judge sentenced the defendants to one sentence for each of these crimes, and the total of all sentences exceeded one thousand years, one of the largest sentences ever handed down in Brazil.
“The defendant committed different offenses in more than one act, with no connection or connection between them capable of characterizing one as a continuation of the other, but, on the contrary, since they were really independent, satisfying lust in one act and restarting the other in the next behavior from a new libidinal sexual intentions.” One of them is read in the verdict, which in practice sentenced the accused to life imprisonment, and also where the lawyers’ request that the defendant wait at liberty for the consideration of statutory appeals was denied.
According to what little is known about the investigation, keeping the secret to save the child, the stepfather began to rape her in 2019, when the girl was only eight years old, and the violations continued until earlier this year, when they were discovered. The man took advantage of his wife’s going to work when he was alone with his stepdaughter to rape her and threatened the minor not to tell anyone.
When the girl’s mother, who discovered strange changes in her daughter’s behavior, suddenly found herself at home after leaving for work, she found her daughter frightened, hiding and without clothes, trying to cover herself with someone else’s clothes. Caught red-handed, the husband left the room without clothes and tried to escape, but the girl’s mother did not allow him to leave the residence and kept him locked up until the police arrived.
