Portuguese referees will be able to remain active until the age of 50, according to the new arbitration rules of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Luce, president of the body’s Board of Arbitration (CA), confirmed on Monday.
“Judges today have professional longevity that lasts for years, which is actually an example of what happens to any athlete. If you have the physical and technical conditions, you can continue to contribute,” said José Fontelas Gomes. while talking to Lusa.
The current age limit for football referees is set at 45 and could be raised to 48 if the FPF CA agrees. From now on, with the provision presented, the career of judges can be extended for another two years.
