Portuguese families who find it difficult to pay their mortgages due to the increase in the Euribor rate can now request access to subsidies for mortgage interest. Membership applications can be submitted starting this Tuesday, May 16, and support will be retroactive to January 1 this year.
Requests to access this support for the payment of variable-rate home loans must be submitted “by borrowers to institutions using the channels they provide for this purpose,” the Treasury Department said in a statement. Once a full application is received, institutions have 10 business days to notify applicants if they qualify for this support.
The subsidy covers contracts with a loan of up to 250 thousand euros and the subsidy reaches 75% of the mortgage value, provided that this goes beyond the 35% household effort level.
