Ireland imposes the highest fine in the EU on Meta for failing to respect privacy on Facebook

It is a fine of 1.2 billion euros. The Irish Data Protection Commission has also ordered the multinational to suspend the transfer of personal data of users from the EU to the United States.

Ireland has imposed a fine of 1,200 million euros to Meta for infringing the privacy of its users on the social network Facebook. In addition, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DCP) has ordered the multinational to suspend the transfer of personal data of users from the European Union to the United States.

The fine is the highest economic sanction that has been imposed in the EU on a multinational for infractions related to data protection, after that of 746 million euros to Amazon in 2021.

Mark Zuckerberg’s technology has a period of five months to meet the requirements of the DCP.
