Poland started broadcasting a radio show hosted by an artificial intelligence last weekend. Her name is Basia and she is the first artificial intelligence to lead a radio program. The broadcasts last one hour and, as explained on Monday by the editor-in-chief of the station, Rafal Kurowski, consists of animation, answer to questions from the audience, weather forecast, light news and songs presented by herself.
His first words were as follows: “Hello, I’m Basia and you’re hearing right: I’m an artificial intelligence, this is not a joke. Fascinating, isn’t it?”
Kurowski called the project a “fun experiment for the summer” and clarified that it will air until September. He also admitted that the songs played by Basia are chosen by the station’s team.
To promote the new programme, Radio Piekary has created a virtual image of Basia, including have opened profiles on social networks, through which listeners have the opportunity to send requests for greetings on the air, questions or request songs.
The director of the station wanted to clarify that “no employee will be replaced by artificial intelligence.”
