Poll on Twitter: users vote for the resignation of Elon Musk from the post of the head of the social network

Twitter users have voted for Elon Musk to step down as head of the social media platform after posting a poll asking people if he should remain boss.

Questions: “Should I step down as leader…?” Musk promised: “I will insist on the results.”

The poll was released at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, and when it closed on Monday morning, 17,379,819 people voted, with 57.5% saying yes to the tech mogul’s resignation.

In a follow-up tweet posted last night at 11:34 p.m., he wrote: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for because you might get it.”

It is not yet clear exactly when Musk will respond to the poll results.

While the results of the Twitter poll are by no means authoritative, he has a track record of tracking them.

He sold a tenth of his Tesla assets after the 2021 poll and reinstated Donald Trump’s account after another vote last month. After polling Trump, he tweeted the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which roughly translates to “The voice of the people is the voice of God.”

Musk, who also runs Tesla and Space X, has faced mounting criticism since taking control of Twitter in a $44 billion deal just two months ago.

He fired about half of his staff and allowed controversial figures to return to the platform, including Trump and TikTok influencer Andrew Tate.

The launch of Musk’s paid verification feature on Twitter was put on hold after a flood of copycats and restarted last week.

Civil rights groups have also criticized his approach to content moderation, arguing that it will lead to more hate speech and misinformation on the platform.

On Friday, the United Nations and the European Union condemned Musk after Twitter suspended New York Times, CNN and Washington Post journalists who covered the company on social media.

The UN has said media freedom is “not a toy” and the EU has threatened Twitter with sanctions.
