Thousands of reports have been logged on DownDetector’s downtime tracking website as of Sunday afternoon – here’s what we know so far.
BBC iPlayer not available?
According to DownDetector, the problems began around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, and thousands of reports were received over the next hour.
Social media users have reported that the iPlayer app has stopped working on their smart TVs, as well as platforms such as SkyQ and Virgin Media, and third-party streaming devices such as the Amazon Firestick.
According to several images posted on Twitter, viewers saw a message that the issues were due to the BBC iPlayer SSL certificate expiring.
Subsequently, some users have reported that this particular error seems to have been fixed for them and iPlayer is now working. However, others have indicated that they still have problems.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: “We are aware of a technical issue affecting the display of the BBC iPlayer on some Internet-connected TVs. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
