Twitter has run into trouble as users say their timeline won’t load on either the mobile or web app.
The Twitter website itself will continue to operate, as will third-party clients such as Tweetdeck. People can still see other people’s profiles and tweet.
However, the ‘Following’ tab in the apps doesn’t load the tweets, but instead the message ‘Welcome to Twitter’ appears. Looks like a similar issue with the “For You” tab has been resolved.
Twitter has so far not publicly acknowledged the issue, though ironically #TwitterDown is trending on the site.
The social networking site has faced a growing number of problems since it was acquired by Elon Musk last year, with many accusing it of laying off a large number of employees, including engineers.
Twitter users are using the hashtag to mock Musk by posting memes of him single-handedly trying to fix the glitch.
Meanwhile, Nick Harvey tweeted: “At the hour Twitter was down, I was surprised to find that I have a wife and two kids.”
Another user commented, “This is meta stuff from #TwitterDown… trending hashtag but no recent results.” It’s almost like laying off most of your staff and not paying your bills, which is bad for stability and reliability.”
