China urges G7 countries to stop playing with fire over Taiwan

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin urged the United States, Japan and the G7 countries to refrain from supporting Taiwan’s independence on May 18, Xinhua reported.

Wang Wenbin’s statement was a response to media reports that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had said that the Taiwan issue should be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said the real threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits is the unwillingness of the island’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party to recognize the so-called “1992 consensus.” He presupposes adherence to the “one China” principle. In addition, peace in the strait is threatened by the actions of separatists fighting for the independence of the island and attempts to violate the status quo, which is that the territories on both sides of the strait belong to a single country.

Wang accused the United States, Japan and other countries of moving away from the “one China” principle and cooperating with the island’s independence forces in the political, military and economic spheres. Therefore, they are also responsible for the tension in the Taiwan Strait.

Wang Wenbin said it is impossible to talk about peace in the strait without condemning the separatist forces on the island. He urged the “great twilight” countries to stop playing with fire and try to resist the 1.4 billion Chinese people.
