Mudslides this Saturday on the island of Ischia in southern Italy have killed at least one woman and “between 10 and 12” are missing, according to a new balance sheet from Italian authorities.
The president of the region of Naples (which includes Ischia), Claudio Palomba, confirmed this new balance at a press conference, but emphasized that this is a preliminary count, as there are “10 to 12 people” missing who do not respond to attempts to make a phone call.
A woman’s body has been recovered from the mud, and rescuers are still looking for a dozen missing after landslides following heavy rains left a trail of devastation on the Italian island of Ischia.
