The Socialists are losing regional and local hegemony in Spain. Law celebrates the “new cycle”

Spain’s regional and municipal map is no longer dominated by the Socialists after Sunday’s regional and local elections, which were won by the People’s Party (PP, right), announcing the start of a “new political cycle” in the country.

The Socialist Party (PSOE), which has headed the national government since 2018, led the regional executive bodies of nine of the 12 autonomous regions in which elections were held on Sunday, and at the end of the vote count lost more than half, retaining only four: Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castile- La Mancha and Navarre.

The PP, which ruled only two of the regions that took part in the vote on Sunday (Madrid and Murcia), could lead the eight, joined by Andalusia and Castile and León, which postponed the elections to 2022, in which the People’s Party also won. .
