US imposes sanctions on perpetrators of violence in Sudan

The White House announced this Thursday the imposition of sanctions on actors “committing violence” in Sudan, given that the parties to the conflict are not respecting the US-brokered (US) ceasefire agreement.

The State Department said the U.S. will impose visa restrictions on specific individuals from Sudan, including officials of the Sudanese Armed Forces and their adversaries from the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group, as well as leaders of the former regime of Omar al-Bashir, who are “responsible or complicity in undermining the transition to democracy” in Sudan.

“These measures are designed to hold accountable those responsible for undermining peace, security and stability in Sudan,” said White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
