Due to the explosion of the Kakhovka dam, 14 thousand houses were flooded

More than 14,000 homes were flooded and about 4,300 people were evacuated after Tuesday’s explosion at the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine, security services said, citing TASS.

The Kakhovka Dam, located on the Dnieper River on the border between Ukrainian territory and Russian-controlled territory, is a key facility in southern Ukraine providing water to Crimea.

According to Reuters, about 600 square kilometers of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine were under water this Thursday due to the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam, the region’s governor said.

Governor Alexander Prokudin said that 68% of the flooded territory falls on the Russian-occupied left bank of the Dnieper.

Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Ukraine blame each other for destroying the dam.
