The Ministry of Culture of the United Kingdom has reported that the queue to access the interior of Westminster Hall, where the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II rests, exceeds 24 hours. This morning the British authorities have asked the public that no one else join the line, for now, since its maximum capacity is about to be reached. The moment that happens, more people will be prohibited from joining the queue.
Yesterday, September 16, the mile-long queue in central London had to be interrupted for seven hours to avoid further crowding.
Around 400,000 people are expected to pass through the funeral chapel between Wednesday, the opening day, and Monday morning, the day of the state funeral, to say goodbye to the late sovereign.
Incident at Westminster Hall
a man has been stopped this past night inside the burning chapel after having tried touching the coffin of Elizabeth II. According to the newspaper “The Sun”, the man climbed the stairs of the catafalque and tried to tear off the royal banner that covers the coffin. Because of the incident, the live broadcast of the chapel was interrupted for 15 minutes.
