Witnesses said the participant in the Annecy playground attack was unable to stab Manuel da Ponte, the Portuguese hero who was trying to stop the attacker.
Manuel da Ponte was walking with his wife on that fateful day when they heard screams and turned around. The attacker tried to stab him for the first time, but succeeded only on the second attempt. It was at this point that the police accidentally shot Manuel.
The Portuguese usually walks with his wife in the area every day. They live less than five minutes away.
This Sunday there is a tribute to the victims of the attack organized by the Annecy City Hall. Police reinforcements are already being felt. There are soldiers on earth to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.
The ceremony is held with a representative of the Portuguese consulate. They honored the memory of the dead with a minute of silence.
