Jack Teixeira, the US military man suspected of leaking classified US documents, was formally charged this Thursday with passing national defense information and extracting classified data.
Teixeira, a 21-year-old Portuguese national who served in the National Guard, faces six charges of “deliberately storing and transmitting classified information related to national defense,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
“The United States government has granted Jack Teixeira access to classified national defense information, including information that could be extremely damaging to national security if disclosed,” U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a press release.
