The largest city in southern China again became the scene of violent clashes

Guangzhou, the largest city in southern China, returned this Wednesday to record violent clashes between protesters and police after a weekend marked by demonstrations across the country against the zero-covid strategy.

The video shows demonstrators throwing glass bottles and metal bars at security forces, who are marching in rows protected by transparent shields.

The scenes were captured in the Haizhu area, which has been the target of violent clashes between groups of migrant workers from poor rural areas and security forces in recent weeks. The area has been under strict quarantine for several weeks as part of China’s “zero case” strategy for Covid-19.
