Lula vows to completely stop deforestation in the Amazon by 2030

Brazil’s president vowed this Thursday that “it would be very difficult for anyone to cut down a tree in the Amazon” and set 2030 as the deadline to completely stop deforestation in a region considered the lungs of the planet.

“We will be very tough on anyone who cuts down a tree to plant soybeans, cereals or pastures,” Lula said, speaking in Paris at the start of a concert in favor of the environment promoted by the non-government organization Global Citizen, at which, among other things, Singers Lenny Kravitz and Billy Eilish performed for free.

“Lula” da Silva said that the Amazon is “the sovereign territory of Brazil, but at the same time belongs to humanity”, and added, quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE, that “it is for this reason that what is necessary to maintain the forest must be done.”
