The main covering of the World Youth Day altar stage in Tagus Park was completed this Saturday, followed by the installation of the two sides of the stage “in the next few days”, the Lisbon City Council (CML) announced.
The stage is “already covered” and both sides “will be brought together in the next few days,” CML said in a statement sent to newsrooms this Saturday.
“Weighing about 40 tons, this is a spatial metal structure of a light-light-tube structure, consisting of a set of screens that allow you to create plays of sound, light and shadows on a stage that is 3250 sq. square meters, will serve as an altar to Pope Francis,” the municipality said in a statement released this Saturday.
The municipality’s office also recalls that the structure will remain in the Tagus Park after the event, “thus fulfilling the purpose of the work for the city and the people of Lisbon.”
At the end of last month, the mayor announced that the work in the Lisbon part would be completed ahead of schedule.
A week ago, on June 30, Carlos Moedas announced that they had “two or three weeks left before the completion of the altar.”
Lisbon has been chosen by Pope Francis for the next World Youth Day, which will take place from 1 to 6 August, with the main ceremonies taking place in the Parque Eduardo VII and Tagus Park, north of the Nasoins Park, on the banks of the river. Tagus.
This year’s edition, scheduled to close by the Pope, was originally scheduled for 2022 but was delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic.
