Angolan activist Tanais Neutro accuses UNITA of “negotiating” with the MPLA in the 2022 elections.

Angolan activist Gilson da Silva Moreira’s Tanais Neutro accused UNITA (the opposition) on Monday of “negotiating” the 2022 general election with the MPLA (in power), expressing disappointment with the party led by Adalberto Costa Junior.

According to Tanaice Neutro, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the largest opposition party, won the 2022 general election, which was officially won by the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA, in power since 1975), “with great support society”.

“No one, absolutely no one transfers power on a silver platter. Opposition [UNITA] we won, but again we agreed, as in 2017, therefore, when the opposition transfers power, it does not give it away on a silver platter, there are negotiations,” the activist said at a press conference.

For almost three weeks now, the musician, who spoke about the circumstances of his arrest, in January 2022, before the August elections of the same year, said that “UNITA agreed on power with the MPLA in exchange for benefits.”

He recalled that the “little brothers” party, which received 90 seats in parliament (legislative body 2022-2027) almost twice as many as in previous elections, had “great support from citizens, including members of the MPLA and militants” in the elections “, but they “disappointed” the townspeople.

“Chairman of the opposition [UNITA] Where did he live before the election? And after the elections, where do you live?” he asked, expressing the same “disappointment” with the leadership of Adalberto Costa Junior.

“At the moment, I am disappointed with the opposition, because we fought for the removal of the party in power, but again, the opposition was negotiating, and when the opposition is negotiating, only its deputies and members of the party leadership win,” he said. outside.

For Tanaice Neutro, the alleged “negotiations” are not beneficial either to the militants of this party, much less to people who “will continue to suffer for another five years.”

“So, at the moment, I call on UNITA and its leaders to position themselves as opposition, if they also position themselves as odd jobs, I will also be on their heels,” the activist concluded.

“Tanais Neutro”, released on June 23 after imprisonment for one year and six months, was sentenced on October 12, 2022 to a suspended prison sentence of one year and three months for the crime of insulting the state, its symbols and bodies.

The activist, also known as a “political prisoner,” even believes that he was arrested, even after being given a suspended sentence, for nothing more than an alleged “order from a superior.”
