The Public Ministry accuses the man who threatened to kill the President of the Republic

The man who sent a letter to the president of the republic with death threats was accused by the public ministry (MP), which believes that the defendant should be considered impeccable.

The indictment was issued on July 19, but it became known only now. Marco Aragao, 40, is charged with the crime of aggravated coercion of attempt, the crime of aggravated extortion of attempt, the crime of possession of a prohibited weapon, the crime of unauthorized access and the crime of leaking data. .

To give the threats more credibility, Marco Aragao, a former army officer, sent live ammunition inside the envelope.

On the basis of the accusation, in October 2022, the defendant sent a letter to the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebel de Souza, demanding that one million euros be transferred to a bank account or that the money be delivered in banknotes in two suitcases.

The letter also contained death threats to the President of the Republic, which would be carried out by eliminating him with the use of firearms.

In the text, the deputy claims that “the defendant has a mental anomaly”, suffering, in particular, from a “schizophrenic disorder” and that “due to this mental anomaly, at the time of the presentation of the facts, he was in a state of decompensation.”

“Therefore, the prosecutor’s office understands that the defendant should be declared insane due to a serious mental anomaly and subjected to punishment in the form of placement in a psychiatric institution.”

The defendant was subjected to a preventive measure in the form of detention, replaced by a preventive measure in the form of detention, from January 25, 2023.

The investigation was led by the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) of Lisbon, with the assistance of the judicial police.
